Turkey Avocado Pinwheels // Deli Meat Roll-ups

I am not sure about you, but I don’t think we have ever watched more movies at home than we have in this last year. Movie night became a big part of our 2020 stay-at-home plan.

What I love about movie nights at home, besides being able to pause the movie to get up for a bathroom break whenever I want, is obviously the home field advantage on movie snacks. I love curating a snack situation that works for me vs. the standard fare of popcorn and candy from a theater.

Listen, I am all for enjoying those foods if that’s your preference, but for me, if I straight carb-out on snacks, there is a good chance I’ll be crashing out before the movie ends and that’s definitely no fun!

These Turkey Avocado Pinwheels are a bite-sized snack, perfect for movie night that you can throw together in a jiffy and you can totally customize them to your family’s preferences. With protein and healthy fats being the main focus, then I make sure I have some kind of salty, crunchy carbs snack to pair with it. Some gluten-free crackers, potato chips, popcorn, etc.

These Turkey Avocado Pinwheels are so family-friendly, and you can  customize the ingredients to your crew. Best part, I love that you can just pop one in your mouth. Fuss-free!

Besides the turkey that has a dual role as wrapper, the California Avocado is the star here. Bringing all the healthy fats, vitamins, minerals and of course, so much flavor. Rather than your standard sandwich condiments the avocado becomes the featured flavor!

To ensure you’re enjoying locally grown avocados, be sure to check for California on the label from spring through summer!

Here are some fun ways that you can customize this movie-friendly snack.

Options for Your Turkey Avocado Pinwheels

Single-serve: If you don’t want to mess with rolling up the big log to cut the single pinwheel rounds; you can keep it super simple and make them one at a time. This is a fun way to get the kiddos involved and allows for everyone to fully customize their roll for movie snack night. ,

Wrapped in Tortillas: If you want your pinwheels to have a bit more structure, to add another element, roll up a single tortilla of your choice with the deli meat, avocado and veggies inside, then cut into pinwheels.

Add cream cheese: If dairy is an option for you, the internet is full of deli meat pinwheel recipes that include cream cheese. You can actually roll out a block of slightly softened cream cheese into a rectangle between two sheets of plastic wrap: then layer the deli meat, flip it over, spread the smashed California Avocado on top of the cream cheese, add your veggies, and roll into the log. The log can get chilled to firm up and your pinwheels are a bit more circular in shape.
