With the start of October comes a new shopping list of in-season vegetables and fruit. It may feel like with summer coming to an end and the cold weather looming, that produce would be limited and unexciting, but for my money October is one of the most plentiful months for fresh local produce here in NY state. With the much-welcomed cooler nights and mornings, we are seeing more greens again, if we are lucking there might be some peppers and tomatoes still lurking around, plus of course we have all of the squash, the apples, etc. So many fresh and tasty treats to get creative with. Look for a recipe here on Tasty Yummies later today that features some of this beautiful produce.
What is your favorite October produce? I think for me it is a tie between apples and pumpkins.

Squash
Apples
Leeks
Swiss chard
Rutabaga

LOVE these photos and I just clicked through to get the full list… so great. Thanks so much for sharing. I really love produce this time of year. For me I think my favorite is all of the squashes.
yum, yum, yum, yum… double yum. I’ll take it all please.
My favorite seasonal produce is grapes. I remember picking them off the vine at my friend’s farm when we were younger. They tasted so good!
Yes!! It is incredible how much flavor they have fresh from the vine. Last fall I got a big bushel of concord grapes and made jam and juice. Yummiest thing ever!
So hard to choose my favorite!! Apples and pumpkin for sure, but I had a dish with crispy fried leeks the other day that was incredible! Lovely photos!!
I am with you Alissa, I almost said a three way tie since I feel like squash is right up there at the top! I am with you on leeks, too! I actually just posted a salad recipe that has crispy, delicious caramelized leeks on top. I could eat those little suckers, every day! Thanks for stopping by!
Wow these photos are superb. Love all of the colors.
I think my favorite this time of year is definitely pumpkins!
Thanks Nicole.
I would select Apples, Leeks and Pears. I personally don’t like pumpkins. I usually pick leeks from my neighbor’s farm and make soup with onions and pepper. Hmm…so yummy!!!
