Sacred Self Care Guide for November 2018 from Rising River Wisdom School
In all the worlds’ mythology and culture, there have been wisdom keepers, those who looked to the natural and the hidden worlds as a guide for life on earth. Within these seekers are stargazers, who ascribe meaning to the “stars” and their movements through the solar system.
Though Earth’s Moon is no star, it reflects the brightest light we can see in the night sky. Its phases are a part of human consciousness, and its movements affect systems on earth and sea. When we align our activities to the Moon’s cycles we find a greater connection to both our bodies and intuitive wisdom. Read on for some self care wisdom inspired by the new moon.
Rising River Wisdom School is an immersive program for those looking to step into their own power and carry wisdom for themselves and the world around them. Below you will find some Sacred Self Care insight for November from Rising River Wisdom School’s incredible teachers – we’ve got you covered for setting intentions with the upcoming new moon, to seeking insight from animal guides to plant medicine, plus lots of guidance for mindfully navigating the world with your vibrant well-being in focus.

Sabian Symbol: A Girl’s Face Breaking into a Smile – “Faith” By Michelle Prentiss
November’s New Moon of 2018 comes on the heels of Election Day, and is complex, surprising and powerfully regenerative. Strong feelings surround the lunation and the themes of faith, strength and the power and courage to move on in our lives, despite disappointments – are highlighted.
This Sun/Moon conjunction is in strong aspect to its planetary rulers Mars and Pluto – bringing a kind of stability to the unpredictable forces at work in the collective now, even in the face of the ongoing challenge of integrating and processing change.
Mars is also in a positive relationship to Venus Retrograde now in Libra, also supporting the energy of harmony.
Just prior to the lunation the revolutionary planet Uranus, (retrograde in Aries) squares the Nodal Axis of our Moon, moving now to Cancer/ Capricorn. Uranus is freedom loving- anything goes this week! The wild card energy of friction that we feel however, does point to a resolution from the trine from Neptune, actively beaming into the collective imaginative ways of creating our future.
The idea of blending opposing factors and creating something new is the key image of this Moon. An awareness of control in order to master our goals and objectives is also highlighted.
The development of a mature strength and faith in our ability to connect our wild and instinctual self with our civilized and cultured selves, to center our lives in love and trust learning to re-imagine and re-birth our lives graciously, to blend and harmonize is essential now. To do this we must be centered in what we appreciate in our lives, even as we wish for our ideals.
Here is a small New Moon Ritual To do for this Month, adapted from the Goddesscircle.net:
GIVE THANKS
As we open to the possibility of what is coming into our lives, this is a good time to offer thanks for all that has come in the last cycle. You can offer thanks to the Universe, to the deities or guides you work with, to your spirit animals, or anyone you want to give a special thanks to during this powerful time.
You can leave out an offering of your choosing somewhere outside like a piece of bread, some flowers, a crystal and say a few words of thanks such as:
“I give thanks with open arms For all that there has been
I open still for all that flows And comes from the unseen.” ~Ara
New Moon affirmations are potent phrases of intent which you can use to anchor your work during the New Moon. You can light a candle before you say them and then speak ones that resonate with you or you can create your own as you are called. Here are some for Wednesday’s New Moon:
- “I am reborn with this New Moon”
- “I embrace the new beginnings opening to me this New Moon”
- “I am open to the unfolding path and synchronicity that flow into my world”
- “I let go of what is no longer serving me and open to what is”
- “I am open to receive”
- “I am wholly rooted in my truth”
You may write or speak wishes and goals. This lunation has the power to birth strong new life for many of our creative seeds. Blessed Be!

New Moon in Scorpio Plant Spirit Medicine by Jacqueline Zajdman
The Scorpio new moon carries a deep knowing that we must acknowledge the past to release it and rise up transformed. This season’s dramatics ruled by Pluto, calls out the energy of fire, transformation, and death of something that we no longer are, to step into what we will become. I myself have been giving daily thanks and gratitude for the perspective of what I’ve been able to experience and accomplish, while realizing what I want to step into. Who I was and what I wanted a year ago has changed. This could mean spiritual changes, self- development, career, and rebirths of any kind for you. Endings can seem hopeless at times, however purification of an older version of oneself is truly cleansing. Self awareness plus determination to become a bigger and better version of YOU means growth, learning, and expansion. Knowing you are rising up, changing, and morphing for your greatest and highest good.
Scorpio, ruled by Pluto helps connect us to the energy of change, purging, elimination, and sexuality. It may sound dramatic, but sometimes we need our souls to grow, and ultimately we are resilient enough to step up to the challenge. The question is, are you willing to let go and TRUST? Plutonic related herbs have deep roots that we can’t see creeping at the surface, but carry strong medicine. The Ginger Root has a fiery power to transform and move energy throughout the body. In folk magick, Ginger calls in love, success, money and power. It helps with psychic development and protection. Used in teas, soups and curries, this rhizome warms the digestive tract and actually helps inflammatory issues, especially in the gut. Ginger relieves nausea and travel sickness, helps sore throats, boosts circulation and is a natural antiviral against colds and the flu. Fire is intense, and in times of burnout, Ginger fortifies deficiency. Let’s give thanks to this super food with incredible energy to help keep our fire alive and welcome in our rebirth.
New Moon in Scorpio Animal Guide by Brook Albrigo
Last month we detoxed and purged so much with Frog energy. You may have felt it physically, emotionally, energetically or even in your career, home and relationships. On some level you let some stuff go whether you wanted to or not! This month, with the new moon cycle in Scorpio, we are trying to find our place in this new reality after the
purge of October. Not an easy task but we are more than well equipped
for this challenge.
I was shown a tall white crane, carefully stalking the shallow water and catching a small fish with it’s powerful and precise beak. Crane’s have always been connected to balance, longevity and abundance. Their long legs can trudge through the mud and swamps without even touching their body. They can navigate the most unstable earth, live on water and fly to migrate. This bird can find balance in so many difficult elements and so shall we.
Are you distracted by too many projects and priorities? Crane asks you to pick one thing and focus your energy on it. This is not the time to divide your attention and half ass too many things. Pick something, stay focused, see this emotional time through with your feet firmly planted yet able to see the big picture and you will receive nourishment and sustenance in the end. Allow yourself to feel but don’t get tricked into thinking you’re drowning in it. Crane resembles justice and balance- things WILL even out. You are finding your way. A NEW way. So don’t expect to know exactly what to do or what is coming, this is uncharted territory. Trust you are finding your place in the world and allow crane to ease any worries around love, attention, money, abundance or anything else you’re feeling an uneasy shift in.
Concentrate on what’s most important to you at this time. We will be in this Crane energy for a one month cycle until the next New Moon in December. If you would like to connect with Crane on a more personal level, feel free to do a meditation inviting it in and ask what specific medicine it brings you at this time. You can also keep an image or get outside and pay attention to how they move and act.
