After a week in Western New York, I am in a fall mood! We we hit up the The Great Pumpkin Farm and went to the Mayer Brothers Apple Cider Mill, and I tried to enjoy as much fall food and flavors as I could in this short trip home. There truly is nothing like fall on the east coast.
Apple cider from the east coast, is probably one of my favorite things in the whole wide world! Sadly, I have yet to find anything quite like it, in our new home! I have found some OK ones in Southern California – but there really is no substitute. While it isn’t as good as the ones in Buffalo, I grabbed some decent cider a few weeks ago at a local market and was inspired to create this fall cocktail, featuring some of my favorite local kombucha – Fine Feathers Kombucha!
Fine Feathers Kombucha Co, is an amazing and inspiring husband and wife business based in Long Beach, CA, who have built their company on a pride for all things hyper-local and sustainable. They source their organic ingredients locally, they produce their raw, probiotic- and enzyme-rich, alkalizing drinks at their facility/storefront in Long Beach and they even deliver their incredible brews on bike for ultra eco-friendly goodness. For what very little imbibing I do these days, I do like to feel like I am offsetting the alcohol with something super healthy and beneficial to my gut and my community! Seems like a successful “adult bevvy”, if you ask me.
This cocktail is full of so much flavor. A hint of spicy warmth from the fresh ginger, a slight sweetness and tartness from the kombucha and the apple cider and a little bubbly from the kombucha. Plus, it reminds me of both my old home and my new home, all at once! Is there anything more you could want of a cocktail?
- 4 ounces ginger kombucha
- 2 ounces vodka
- 1 teaspoon grated fresh ginger (more or less, depending on your preference)
- splash of apple cider or apple juice
- apple slice
Pour the kombucha and vodka in a glass with the fresh ginger, give it a stir. Add ice and top with a splash of apple cider. Garnish with a fresh apple slice. Enjoy![/print_this]
