“There’s always money in the banana stand!”
If you get the fun name of these and the quote above, then I know you are celebrating with me today, too!
The final season of Arrested Development is on Netflix as of today and I couldn’t be more excited!!! The only dilemma I have with this final season besides this meaning it’s really over, is trying to decide with the entire 15 episode season being available all at once, do I cram them all in, marathon style or space them out, savoring each amazing moment? I may have to stay off all social media until we watch them all, so no one ruins it for me. I hate spoilers.
Arrested Development is one of our all time favorite shows, it is embarrassing how many times we have watched the whole series in it’s entirety and how many random lines my hubby and I quote from it all the time.
Our favs:
“It’s an illusion Michael!”
“Army had half a day.”
“I’m half machine. I’m a monster.”
“I just blue myself.”
So, in honor of the Bluth family coming back for their final season, instead of making whole bananas like they do at the “The Big Yellow Joint”, I decided to make these simple “Bluth Bites” – aka frozen chocolate covered banana bites. Sure a whole “Bluth Original Frozen Banana” would be delicious too, but who doesn’t love a bite-sized chocolate treat?
I know a TV inspired post is totally out of the ordinary for me, but don’t worry guys Tasty Yummies won’t be taken over by the Bob Loblaw Law Blog.
Hopefully I won’t disappear for the next few days and have an Arrested Development Series Finale Marathon until I get through them all at once. But, if you don’t hear from me in two days, send help!
“And that is why you always leave a note!”
Are as excited about the final season of Arrested Development as we are?
Who is your favorite character? {I honestly cannot pick just one. I kinda love them all.}
What are some of your favorite lines/moments from the show?
[print_this]Bluth Bites – Frozen Chocolate Covered Bananas {Gluten-free + Vegan}
- 2 medium organic bananas
- 1/2 cup semi-sweet or dark chocolate chips (make sure to choose vegan chocolate, if you wish)
- 1 tablespoon coconut oil
*Optional add ins/ons – chopped nuts, shredded coconut, peanut or almond butter
Slice the bananas into 1/2-inch to 3/4-inch rounds and place them in a single layer on a parchment paper lined baking sheet. Place the bananas in the freezer for at least 2 hours.
Once the bananas are frozen, melt the chocolate and coconut oil. You can do it carefully in a small saucepan, in a double boiler, or a glass bowl over a pan of hot water (my favorite method) or in small increments using the microwave. Heat the mixture slowly over a low heat just until smooth and totally melted.
Remove the bananas from the freezer and using two forks or a toothpick carefully dip each banana slice into the melted chocolate. Allow any excess chocolate to drizzle off and then place back on the parchment paper lined tray. Because of the coconut oil, the chocolate will start to set almost immediately on the frozen bananas. (It kinda reminds me of that magic shell stuff from when we were kids)
You have to work somewhat quickly so the bananas don’t get too soft, as they can be difficult to work with then, also if the chocolate starts to cool down and get too thick, you may want to remelt it a little.
You can eat the banana bites immediately or place them back into the freezer until you are ready for them. When they have sat out a bit and the banana inside starts to get soft, and they are almost like little ice cream bites, the banana is so creamy. I like them both ways, totally frozen or slightly soft. Enjoy.Β [/print_this]

1. HECK YES I’M EXCITED!
2. Buster- he just cracks me up more than any other character!
3. I love Buster’s “The seal is for marksmanship…. the gorilla is for sand racing” and Lucille’s
“Take it back. If I wanted something your thumb touched, I’d eat the inside of your ear”
Awesome. I just posted these. That’s so creative!! π
“I’ve made a huge mistake” π
And my huge mistake was that I did not book off today in order to watch it! I literally work from 9 am to 10 pm π Oh well, I guess I will just be forced to space out watching it a bit!
These look like an amazing treat to celebrate with!!
These look delicious. Thanks for the recipe. I love the flavors of banana and chocolate add a little peanut butter and it would be heavenly!!
I have never seen that show. I will have to look into it. Maybe I will borrow it from our library system.
Have a beautiful day!
Haha, great minds think alike! I just did a bluth banana recipe on a stick, but I love the idea of bites! I am so fricken excited for the new season as well. My favourite scene from the show (so hard to pick) is when lindsays starting a beads business and GOB is yelling BEES! We’ll see who brings in more honey… I die everytime we watch that episode.
Ha this is awesome Shae. I love that you did yours whole and I really love that yours are totally raw and refined sugar free. I have to try those, they sound amazing.
One word … YUM!!
Shirley
Oh I’m so excited to try these – I always have a craving for icecream bars in the summer so this would be a perfect replacement!
Thanks!! Lindsay
Yum! Thanks for the recipe. I’ve never been able to eat dairy. When I was growing up, the ice cream store where I lived served frozen chocolate covered bananas. It was sure nice for me while the rest of the family got ice cream.
I love your blog!
Ah, really loved it, yummy! Thanks for that, for sure will try it again π
Hahaha! I saw this on the VGN forum as “bluth bites” and I thought, hmm I wonder if that has anything to do with arrested development, then I saw that they were chocolate covered frozen bananas, lol! Great work! I love arrested development!
I like this post in so many ways haha! Just watched the first 2 episodes, I’m so glad they decided to bring it back, go team Buster!
These look great, I also cook with extra virgin coconut oil, for desserts and otherwise. Gonna try these, thanks! π

Awesome! A fantastic recipe, I love it!
Yay, Bluth Bites! I was going to make some Cornballs for our get together but it never happened. It’s probably for the best, since I would have most assuredly gotten burned in the process π
Hi – how would you add peanut butter – do you mix some into the melted chocolate (and how much? or make a layer inside the chocolate?
ANUSTART
Yeh, you could mix some into the chocolate, but it might mot get that hard shell-like outside. Or you can put a small dollop on top on the frozen banana, put it back into the freezer for 10-15 minutes to get firm, then dip that into the melted chocolate. Or you could make a sandwich with two bananas, putting peanut butter in between, then dip that into chocolate. Let me know what you try and how it comes out.
just made these. so simple to make! i put a bit of peanut butter on the banana an hour after i put them into the freezer. i suggest letting them freeze longer, the peanut butter didnt want to stick. i dipped them in chocolate using chopsticks so they definitely dont look as nice but they taste great π
Hi, I’m new to your blog– literally just stumbled upon it 5 minutes ago–went to your recipe section because I’m looking for some gluten free snack ideas, and as soon as I saw “Bluth bites” i just had to click it. Too good.
<3 arrested. favorites would probably have to be michael cera and tobias, but only if you forced a gun to my head because really there's no way not to love all of them.
I don’t know anything about the show, but I LOVED these chocolate banana bites!
I thought, at first, way too simple to turn out good. Was I ever wrong!
They are DELICIOUS, ADDICTING, and I can’t wait to share them….when I make more
cause I ate the first batch !
VEGANTASTIC!
Thanks Eva. Told all my friends about your blog.
Haha. Thanks for the comment. So glad you enjoyed it. I agree they seem so simple but they are just so full of flavor and are so satisfying π
Thanks for sharing my blog with others xo Beth
I’ve been dying to try these with frozen cherries. MMMMM!
My son is allergic to coconut. What else could I use to get similar results? Thanks!
hello I can’t wait until I make this.
