Sacred Self Care Guide for February 2018 from Rising River Wisdom School
In all the worlds’ mythology and culture, there have been wisdom keepers, those who looked to the natural and the hidden worlds as a guide for life on earth. Within these seekers are stargazers, who ascribe meaning to the “stars” and their movements through the solar system.
Though Earth’s Moon is no star, it reflects the brightest light we can see in the night sky. Its phases are a part of human consciousness, and its movements affect systems on earth and sea. When we align our activities to the Moon’s cycles we find a greater connection to both our bodies and intuitive wisdom. Read on for some self care wisdom inspired by the new moon.
Rising River Wisdom School is an immersive program for those looking to step into their own power and carry wisdom for themselves and the world around them. Below you will find some Sacred Self Care insight for February from Rising River Wisdom School’s incredible teachers – we’ve got you covered for setting intentions with the upcoming new moon, to seeking insight from animal guides, tarot card reading and plant medicine plus lots of guidance for mindfully navigating the world with your vibrant well-being in focus.
New Moon Wisdom from Michelle Prentiss
New Moon in Aquarius / Solar Eclipse February 15, 2018 2:06pm PST
The New Moon Cycle is ideal for setting intentions and planting the “ seeds” of magic in your life by utilizing your higher mind. This New Moon is in the sign of Aquarius – the sign that embodies the idea of a higher conscious awareness. As the 11th sign in a 12 sign cycle, Aquarius integrates the lessons of the previous 10 signs into visionary actions designed for the collective. The Planets Uranus (Illumination and Insight) and Saturn (Mastery of Matter) co-rule Aquarius and serve as themes for this lunation. The Solar eclipse adds power to this opportunity for breakthroughs in challenging patterns we may have in our lives. By paying attention to our mindset, and exercising the idea of releasing thoughts that drain and negate our sense of an expansive self – we can take quantum leaps in the perception of our challenges. This eclipse is all about the power of manifesting our future, by opening our minds to new possibilities.
The planet Jupiter (Expansion) in Scorpio is challenging this breakthrough, and it’s telling us that in order to achieve it, we must release in order to be reborn. Scorpio’s symbolic theme of re-birth highlights integrating our inner shadow (our shame, fear, fury, betrayal) and transcending judgement about our perceived shortcomings, pain or negative thoughts and experiences. All must be held with love by the higher mind and allowed to flow and release now. When we release we are ready to be filled again – and when we become aware that we can choose how to respond to life, we can begin our conscious manifestation. Mercury (Mind/Communication) and the Asteriod Juno (Relationship/Marriage) connects closely to our Sun/ Moon/Eclipse and aspects Uranus.
Speak your truth now – as you have the opportunity to perceive your deeper patterns of connecting to others and how your thoughts are helping or hurting your experience with yourself and your relationships. It is up to you to allow yourself to experience love and abundance. Begin the process of accessing your insight to create the world of your dreams.
Open yourself to illumination. Take action by connecting your mind and thinking to serve your heart. Release hurt with trusted lovers, friends, and community and choose, step by step to align yourself to this powerful opportunity to experience new solutions, insights and revelations that pave the way to new life. Magic is afoot!
New Moon Plant Medicine from Jacqueline Zajdman
Aquarian energies are making their way to us this New Moon, encouraging us to speak our truths with impeccability. While the solar eclipse on the same day is helping magnify this inspiration, we are now being asked to challenge our way of communicating ideas and dreams into being. This sign of the collective and forward thinking inspires awareness, community, and rising up to the occasion of being your own guru. As a Green Witch, I always look to the cosmos for inspiration and ask the plants for guidance. What plant allies can we access at this time to open our minds and intuition and express our message through clear speech?
This moon, allow yourself to be guided by a few plant allies that will lubricate the channel between thought and delivery. Lavender is a wonderful local plant that carries psychic knowledge, purification, and promotes relaxation. When you drink her in, imagine her purple vibrations flowing through your third eye. This sixth chakra is where we both command and perceive, accessing a mystical state of connection, wisdom and insight. Sleep with lavender at your bedside, burn the dried plant to evoke her energy, or bathe with her in ritual bath. Allow your inner needs to come to you with this magical plant.
When our throat chakra is blocked, we find ourselves tongue tied, unable to ask for what we need, what we desire, and express what we think and feel. Blocks can build, ending up in reactive and depleting communication. Think of your throat and trachea as your musical instrument. Now is the time to sing out and call in your truest wishes and dreams into manifestation. Spearmint tea is perfect for cooling and opening up the throat, while infusion of slippery elm bark, marshmallow and licorice keep your throat feeling soothed and relaxed. In a quart size jar add a handful of any of these herbs to work with, topped off with hot water. Allow it to sit for an hour to access more of the medicinal properties and drink in the mystery of mother earth.
New Moon Tarot Wisdom from Kristi Prokopiak – Oracle Guidance for the Month
With this new moon in Aquarius, we are being asked to honor our voices and celebrate the various ways we express ourselves. We all have important insight to share and there is always someone who needs to hear the specific story we have to tell.
Jenny Holzer is one of my favorite artists, and she is the star of my “Find your own Heroes” card. She shares her thoughts with simple declarations in public spaces for passerby to happen upon and ponder. Trust that your words are just as important, and while you might not distill them into twitter-ready captions and hang them from movie marquees in NYC, there is someone in your realm that will appreciate what you have to say and how you say it. I also think it’s important to note we might not even be dealing in words! Maybe you share your story through a paintbrush, or by cooking meals to gather around and talk about your day with others… your story could even be told through your body and how you present yourself. There is immense value in your point of view and the ways you experience this life. Allow your unique vision to be a light to those who need exactly the medicine you have to give.
I also pulled the “Work with Crystals” card, which asks you to carry a reminder of this medicine you hold. A nice chunk of Kayanite is always helpful when we wish to have clear communication, but you may find Rose Quartz to be helpful when you need to deliver information gently with love. Crystals have wide and varying meanings, but they all serve as a tangible reminder of how we wish to be in this world. Trust that when you speak from your heart and spread your truth, you will call in the tribe that is picking up exactly what you are putting down!!

New Moon Animal Spirit Wisdom from Brook Albrigo
A Solar eclipse sheds light on things we may have been blinded to – it illuminates what was once dark. The New Moon is also in Aquarius which is an air sign- communication, intellect and individuality. It was very fitting to have the Yellow Canary show up as our guide this month in my meditation calling in the animal messengers. You probably think of a caged domesticated bird when you think of a Canary, but the Canary is actually not native to the US and is a wild bird from the finch family in the Canary islands. It was originally an olive green or greenish yellow but centuries of breeding have created a beautiful Yellow. This bright little songbird carries big messages for us!
First thing we notice about Canary is that it’s unlike any other yellow, it even has it’s own shade named after it, and like the sunlight slowly spilling into the dark of night at dawn- Canary brings us a message of Joy and a brand new day to make your own. Use your invaluable voice to feel and express your feelings and through this process you will bring sunlight into your life and those around you. The time has come to ask yourself what song you have been singing- are there some sour notes? Where are they coming from? Your voice holds more weight now than ever before so things you say lovingly will be felt more lovingly, and things you say sharply will cut more deeply so use this power wisely and to your advantage. Be careful of the kind of atmosphere you create with your words, you can create your best life or worst nightmare through this ability.
Canary can bring us some sensitivities so make sure you are exposing yourself to clean fresh air, blue skies and natural light to stay balanced with any heavier shadow work you might be feeling through this eclipse energy. Look at where you feel caged and restricted – What parts of yourself are being suppressed? Canary activates our Heart and Throat Chakras – so let these suppressed parts filter through the heart and travel up and out of the throat by speaking, singing or any kind of sound that feels right. By harnessing the guidance of Canary, you can align yourself to some serious healing and liberation!
If this resonates with you, start working with Canary on your own by asking for it to visit you in your dreams for more guidance or even having a picture of one where you can see it frequently and be reminded of these messages.
