It’s been a while since we’ve had a Foodie Friend Friday post, I can tell you this lapse in sharing definitely isn’t for lack of having incredibly talented friends put out incredibly talented books.
We are back at it today with this gem of a book, Everyday Detox, from Megan Gilmore, AKA The Detoxinista. I absolutely love Megan, her website and recipes and now this incredible book. She just “gets it”. Rather than the all-or-nothing approach of extreme short term detoxes, fasts and cleanses, diets that can set us up for failure, Megan is all about making healthy choices everyday, living life in a mindful way that we can maintain without intense deprivation followed by the post-diet binging.
With digestion mechanics in mind, the crowd-pleasing recipes in this book offer a little something for everyone, without that side of bloating or discomfort. It is proven that we do our best when we make eat real foods, every day. With a focus on nourishing, whole foods, Everyday Detox also includes helpful information on how to stock your detox-friendly kitchen, plus a handy food-combining cheat sheet that demystifies this cutting-edge health principle.

The entire cookbook is gluten-free and there are lots of vegan options, as well.
This simple 3-ingredient Strawberry Lime Sorbet is a breeze to put together, very indicative of most recipes in this book. No ice cream maker needed, very few steps. You can even get creative and add other fruit, like frozen mangoes or other berries, fresh mint or basil and so on.

You’re just minutes away from enjoying a refreshing sorbet that tastes just as delicious as one you’d find at an ice cream shop. Frozen strawberries, whose red flesh contains a compound that may help promote fat loss and boost short-term memory, are the key to this delectable treat, as they provide a slushy, sorbetlike texture when pureed. No need for an ice cream maker! Once you get the hang of it, feel free to use any other frozen fruit you like for an endless number of flavor possibilities.
- 1 pound frozen strawberries
- 2 tablespoons freshly squeezed lime juice
- ¼ cup maple syrup
- ¼ cup water, or more as needed to facilitate blending
In a large food processor fitted with an “S” blade, combine the strawberries, lime juice, maple syrup, and water. Process until the strawberries are completely broken down, which may take several minutes, creating a smooth and thick consistency similar to sorbet. Add more water, if needed, to achieve this smooth texture, and then serve immediately.
NOTE: Leftovers can be stored in a sealed container in the freezer, but they will become rock hard when frozen. To serve again, remove from the freezer and thaw for 20 to 30 minutes, until the sorbet can be stirred and restored to its original texture

This is so yummy, quick, and easy!! We made it just minutes ago and my whole family loves it!!
This looks great! So maybe this is a dumb question, but I have a friend who’s allergic to strawberries and I’d be interested in making this for her with another fruit. Is the lime juice in there just for taste or is some sort of acid needed? For example if I make it with a fruit like peach would you do lemon juice instead or just skip it altogether?
The lime just brings a bright, pop of tart flavor. It compliments the strawberries nicely. You could also try raspberries or another berries. Peaches should work great too. I think the lime is a nice compliment and would work with any of these.
YUM. Just what I need for this hot week!!
