15-Minute Tomato Sauce

  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • ½ medium onion, diced
  • ½ teaspoon dried oregano
  • 1 teaspoon crushed red pepper flakes
  • 3 cloves garlic, minced
  • ½ teaspoon fine grain sea salt
  • 28 ounce can roasted crushed tomatoes
  • ¼ cup fresh basil, roughly chopped
  1. Heat the olive oil over a medium-high heat.
  2. Add the onion, oregano, red pepper flakes and sea salt. Saute until the onion is slightly translucent and fragrant, 3-5 minutes.
  3. Add the garlic. Give it a stir and sauté for about 45 second to a minute or until fragrant.
  4. Add the tomatoes and reduce the heat, bring to a gentle simmer. Simmer for about 10 minutes. Season with salt and pepper to taste.
  5. Remove from the heat and stir in the fresh basil. Toss a few spoonfuls of the sauce with the cooked gnocchi, top with additional fresh basil, red pepper flakes and shredded cheese, if you’d like.
