5-Day Fall Cleanse

Share This

Your body is an incredible thing. It is built to naturally detoxify itself every day. By detoxing, we eliminate and neutralize the toxins in our bodies through our skin, lungs, lymph, liver and kidneys. We are exposed to so many heavy environmental toxins these days, from the air we breathe to the water we drink. Treating yourself to a gentle detox, supported by nutrient dense foods, every once in a while is a great way to give your body a break and support its natural self-cleaning system.

Fall is a great time to cleanse. For Sherrie and I, it is the perfect time. For us, like most people, our summers were filled with indulgent eats + drinks and now our bodies are tired and ready to be re-energized! Fall is a natural time of transition. Cleansing in the fall will prep your body for the harsh winter months by strengthening your immunity, boosting your mood and potentially shedding excess weight before the holidays.

As health and wellness bloggers, our readers often ask us if we cleanse and if so, how we do it. There are so many different cleanses out there and the information can be overwhelming for sure. But it doesn’t have to be complicated. Together we’ve developed this 5 Day Cleanse that is gentle on your body and easy to stick with. Below is all the information you’ll need to get your cleanse started. Although Sherrie is a Certified Health Coach, we would like to remind you that we are not registered nutritionists or doctors and this plan is simply what works best for us. We urge you to do what’s best for you and your body. Listen to it and honor it. This cleanse is not about deprivation. If something doesn’t feel right, we encourage you to restore your balance and make the necessary dietary changes to do so.

All week long we’ll be bringing you green juice and smoothie recipes, detoxing vegetable soups, seasonal plant-based dishes + more! So check back often, between the two of us there will be plenty of recipes to keep your belly full and your mind motivated. We’ll be documenting our eats + drinks all week, so if you haven’t already, get connected with our social media sites now! Later today we will be sharing a shopping list full of ideas to get you started and prepared for the next 5 days so, keep an eye out for that. Below you will find our guide for this 5-day cleanse, including what we will be eating and what we are avoiding.

How to prep for your cleanse + deal with the detox

As you add rich, nutrient dense foods into your diet and remove the heavy processed foods, your body will begin to purge all of its yucky toxins and free radicals. For the first few days your body will mostly likely experience some uncomfortable detoxing symptoms. The symptoms are real and shouldn’t be ignored, chances are you won’t be able to. Fortunately though, there are ways to cope. With proper self care + self love the experience will hopefully be short lived and mild in nature. If possible, try to eat as clean as you can in the days leading up to your cleanse, this will lessen your detox symptoms.

Common detoxing symptoms are irritability, cravings, headaches, stomach pains, diarrhea, constipation, fatigue and breakouts. Ha! Sounds fun, right? Well here are few ways to cope with this process:

  • start each day with a glass of warm lemon water {for more info on the cleansing properties check out my Lemon Water Benefits list}
  • drink warm water with a tablespoon of apple cider vinegar or fresh grated ginger throughout the day for added relief
  • herbal teas + detox-aiding teas will help further flush those toxins
  • drinking a little less than half your body weight in ounces of water is recommended
  • find gentle movement, yoga + walking is ideal.
  • dry brushing {revitalizes cells, improves circulation + unclogs dead skin cells that cannot function properly}
  • soak in an Epsom salt bath {1 cup of salt per bath}, feel free to add in essential oils like lavender for relaxation
  • slow the detox down by having a serving or two of whole grains {see above to find out what whole grains are recommended}

    Excited to start tomorrow. Making homemade veg stock and almond milk today.

  2. I have wanted to do a cleanse for AGES, and I am totally going to participate not this week, but next. Thanks for the tips & tricks! I will be following along the blog, of course. 🙂

  3. Jess says:

    I’ve never done a cleanse, but I’ve been feeling slow, tired, and sickly lately, which is not my usual self at all! So I know I need to back away from the things that are hurting me (in my case, mostly sugar, alcohol, caffeine) and take a leap towards nourishment and healing.

    So I’m on board! Can’t wait to see what great recipes you ladies come up with this week. Thanks for inviting me on your cleansing journey!

      I am sorry you haven’t been feeling your best, Jess!! I am happy to hear you are on board. How has it been going so far for you? Has it been easy? What have you been making?

    Your timing is perfect! My husband & I travel for his work and we just arrived at a new location where we will be staying for 6 weeks. There is a small kitchenette and I have a new Nutrabullet I can’t wait to try. There is a Whole Foods Market just down the road. I think this cleanse will be a great start to our stay here.

    • tastyyummies says:

      Jeannie wow that sounds like you have a lot going on. So glad that you will be joining us. How is it going so far for you?

  8. Lori says:

    Just what I need – thanks!

  9. Jennifer says:

    I wanted to see if there was guide to what to eat each day on the 5 day cleanse. I see the shopping list but I don’t see what to eat each day. Please let me know where I can find that list.
    Thank you,
    Jennifer

      Hi Jennifer, I am not sharing a meal-plan or a meal guide for this cleanse. If you use the 5-Day Cleanse post, the recipe roundup and the shopping list, the possibilities are endless for meals. There are no serious rules. This cleanse isn’t about eating specific meals or following an exact plan, it is just about cutting out the things that we don’t need, that can tax our bodies and our digestion. On the same hand, it’s also about making sure we are getting plenty of the things that help us to detox and cleanse. I may possibly in the future offer a paid meal plan feature for cleanses like this, but at this time, this is just what Sherrie and I could commit to share, with our busy lives.

    So excited to stumble upon this! I’ve been looking for something like this to get my body back in balance, especially before the Holidays. I’m on day 4 and am feeling great! Your shopping list and recipe list have been very helpful; the smoothies are delicious! I’m also looking at trying to eat more Gluten-free and your resources for getting started are so helpful. I’m looking forward to trying out some different flours in my recipes. Thank you for all your work, your site is one of the best I’ve seen and used!!

  12. Rachel says:

    I’ve just started this cleanse this week and it’s going well so far!

    Had an awful headache on Monday, yesterday was fine and today has been ok, apart from being super hungry! I’ve just been eating fruit to counter-act it though.

    Made a lovely purple carrot and ginger soup to have for dinner tonight and lunch tomorrow, then it’s just two more days and I can eat my porridge! hehe

    xx
