  2. 5-Day Fall Cleanse

Your body is an incredible thing. It is built to naturally detoxify itself every day. By detoxing, we eliminate and neutralize the toxins in our bodies through our skin, lungs, lymph, liver and kidneys. We are exposed to so many heavy environmental toxins these days, from the air we breathe to the water we drink. Treating yourself to a gentle detox, supported by nutrient dense foods, every once in a while is a great way to give your body a break and support its natural self-cleaning system.

Fall is a great time to cleanse. For Sherrie and I, it is the perfect time. For us, like most people, our summers were filled with indulgent eats + drinks and now our bodies are tired and ready to be re-energized! Fall is a natural time of transition. Cleansing in the fall will prep your body for the harsh winter months by strengthening your immunity, boosting your mood and potentially shedding excess weight before the holidays.

As health and wellness bloggers, our readers often ask us if we cleanse and if so, how we do it. There are so many different cleanses out there and the information can be overwhelming for sure. But it doesn’t have to be complicated. Together we’ve developed this 5 Day Cleanse that is gentle on your body and easy to stick with. Below is all the information you’ll need to get your cleanse started. Although Sherrie is a Certified Health Coach, we would like to remind you that we are not registered nutritionists or doctors and this plan is simply what works best for us. We urge you to do what’s best for you and your body. Listen to it and honor it. This cleanse is not about deprivation. If something doesn’t feel right, we encourage you to restore your balance and make the necessary dietary changes to do so.

All week long we’ll be bringing you green juice and smoothie recipes, detoxing vegetable soups, seasonal plant-based dishes + more! So check back often, between the two of us there will be plenty of recipes to keep your belly full and your mind motivated. We’ll be documenting our eats + drinks all week, so if you haven’t already, get connected with our social media sites now! Later today we will be sharing a shopping list full of ideas to get you started and prepared for the next 5 days so, keep an eye out for that. Below you will find our guide for this 5-day cleanse, including what we will be eating and what we are avoiding.

  3. 7-Day Spring Cleanse Shopping List

    Spring Cleanse

During a spring cleanse when we are transitioning from the dry cold winter season to the warm and wet spring season, we should be looking to eat more foods that are Pungent (Spicy), Bitter, Astringent / Light, Dry, Warm: such as flavorful steamed veggies, brothy soups, brown rice. Eat less foods that are Sweet, Sour, Salty / Heavy, Cold, Oily: such as fried foods, ice cream, heavy dairy.

Below is my personal shopping list for the upcoming week. Please remember you always want fresh, never frozen or canned and always look for organic, local and non-GMO. Herbs can be fresh or dried.

Again, as I previously mentioned in my original post about the basics of this 7-day cleanse, this isn’t a specific cleanse and I am not a medical professional. I base what I will be eating on this cleanse both on traditional Ayurvedic knowledge and knowing my own body well enough to know what gives me difficulties. Your cleanse and your shopping list will likely look different. Ayurveda doesn’t limit corn, soy or dairy, or even lean meats and fish, on many of it’s cleanses, I however find that I have issues and troubles digesting these things in large amounts and I am choosing to remove them on this particular cleanse to give my body the rest it needs at this time to heal, energize and rejuvenate in preparation for the new season ahead.

  4. How To Stock The Perfect Winter Pantry

    Winter Pantry Staples Shopping List

    Winter Pantry Staples Shopping List

The time has come, at least where I live, when the local fresh produce has dwindled down to very little and we are hunkering down for a long and cold winter. Just because fresh local produce isn’t quite as plentiful around here as it is in the summer, doesn’t mean that I cook any less. I just find I need to get more creative with what I do have and be very smart in stocking my pantry with healthy staples to get me through. Additionally, I still make sure to buy and eat as many veggies as possible and though they may not be local, I do try to at least select organic and as seasonal as I possibly can.

Here is a quick list of some of my favorite pantry staples, I am personally gluten-free so this list reflects that. Use this list as a guide, keeping in mind your own intolerances and preferences to create your own pantry staples list and make sure you are well stocked through the entire winter and all year, for that matter.

  5. Seasonal Shopping: Fresh Fruit & Veggies to Buy in October!

    Squash

With the start of October comes a new shopping list of in-season vegetables and fruit. It may feel like with summer coming to an end and the cold weather looming, that produce would be limited and unexciting, but for my money October is one of the most plentiful months for fresh local produce here in NY state. With the much-welcomed cooler nights and mornings, we are seeing more greens again, if we are lucking there might be some peppers and tomatoes still lurking around, plus of course we have all of the squash, the apples, etc. So many fresh and tasty treats to get creative with. Look for a recipe here on Tasty Yummies later today that features some of this beautiful produce.

What is your favorite October produce? I think for me it is a tie between apples and pumpkins.
