    Savor the Summer: Gluten-free 4th of July Picnic Recipes plus a Picnic Giveaway from MightyNest

    Schools out for summer! OK, well for some of us, it’s been out for like 10+ years, but whatever – it’s still a time to celebrate!!  It’s the best time to focus on enjoying the long days of summer with family and friends. Barefoot temps, trips to the beach and the farmers market, making time for fresh and simple meals and doing as much as possible outdoors… there is just so much that is especially delicious about summer. To me, there is no better word for what it we need to be doing right now – than savoring!!

    One of my personal favorite ways to Savor the Summer is with PICNICS!! We love packing up some goodies and heading to the beach, to a local park, farmers market or even just our own backyard for a some good old fashioned – dining al fresco! There truly is no better way to enjoy the flavors of the season than with your feet in the grass, your skin being kissed by the hot summer sun enjoying the freshest food the season has to offer.

    I am super excited to share with you today a bunch of great naturally-colored red white and blue 4th of July-inspired picnic recipes plus a ton of other summer-worthy recipes!

  2. Paleo German Chocolate Bundt Cake {Grain and gluten-free, Dairy-free}

    Grain-free German Chocolate Bundt Cake {Gluten-free, Dairy-free, Paleo}

    Around Christmas a good friend of mine, Margaux, contacted me to ask if I had any good gluten-free cake recipes for her newly gluten-free sister-in-law, Mandy. I realized that I had really never experimented with a full-on cake recipe in all the years of me being gluten-free. How is it possible that in 9 years of eating gluten-free I had never made a chocolate cake? Shame on me, right? This has to be considered sacrilegious.

    Cake is something I have never really cared about too much about, most times I find cake to be far too indulgent for my taste. Too sweet and just too much for me. I much prefer a small square of great quality dark chocolate or maybe one good homemade gluten-free chocolate chip cookie. My husband, Mark, however is quite the opposite. That man could live on a slice a cake every single day, that is if I wouldn’t nag him to death even before the excessive sugar would get to him. If there is but a single slice of cake in our house, no matter the flavor, it will haunt him until he finally gives in and indulges. Cake for breakfast is a common occurrence ’round here. Considering there was a time he used to drink several Cokes in one day, and he has stopped that and many other bad habits, I have chosen to pick my battles with this kind of stuff. A little cake in the morning never killed anyone.

    When MightyNest contacted me to ask if I wanted to try out their amazing glass bundt cake pan, creating a new gluten-free recipe with it – I was slightly hesitant and a bit intimidated. Not only had it been forever since I made a cake, I have never made a bundt cake. I know, right? Read the rest of this entry »

    Giveaway: Holiday Entertaining? Skip the Paper Plates, Opt for Duralex Glass Dinnerware

    As someone that is slowly taking the steps to rid my life and my home of all useless and unnecessary plastics, disposable products and other wasteful items, I am always taking note of places where I can still make changes. I have gotten rid of almost all of the plastic containers in our home and we now opt for glass whenever possible, so when MightyNest contacted me about creating a post, taking inventory of my kitchen and replacing plastics or other harmful products with glassware from Duralex; instead of storage containers or drinking glasses, which I am set with, I decided their beautiful dinnerware would be the perfect addition to my kitchen.

    Giveaway: Holiday Entertaining? Skip the Paper Plates, Opt for Duralex Glass Dinnerware

    My husband and I just relocated to Southern California earlier this year and one of the things I was most excited about when we got into our new home here, was all the room we have to entertain. We have a big deck off of the house that is perfect for hosting dinner parties. Not only did we not have a deck at our home in NY, but we didn’t have a dining room table or even a kitchen table, for that matter. We had a small town house and our kitchen was long and narrow, no room for a table, so we just had a long bar. It just simply wasn’t conducive to entertaining. After living there nearly 10 years, our kitchenware reflected that fact. We had enough plates and bowls to have another couple over, maybe two, but hopefully not everyone would want their salad in a bowl! Read the rest of this entry »
