    Happy August Everyone and Happy Friday, too! I am not quite sure where July went. It was a busy one for us, lots of events, lots of friend hang time and a trip to San Francisco for work! I am hoping August might give us a little more time to relax and enjoy the summer, though looking at my calendar it just doesn’t seem that way 😉 Hope you are having a wonderful Summer so far. It goes way too fast, doesn’t it?

    Photo Fun Day Friday

    This is my greeting card assembly line getting ready for an event. The team was seriously slacking this day.

    Photo Fun Day Friday

    Real friends know you like sweet and savory together (oh and non-GMO popcorn). Chocolate drizzled popcorn for dessert? Yes please!

    Scenes from the Green Truck, an LA food truck that serves organic, locally sourced foods! The truck actually runs on recycled vegetable oil. All of their packaging and utensils are either recyclable or compostable and they compost everything back to the farms where they source from. How cool is all that?

    Photo Fun Day Friday

    I got their super yummy CALI KALE BOWL: Organic kale, mushrooms, quinoa, Gilroy garlic, shaved raw beets and carrots tossed with lemon, sea salt and pepper, and sprinkled with sesame seeds

    Happy Friday guys!! I will keep the chatter to a minimum on this one, since I have to finish cleaning up the house and go to the airport to pick up my parents!! YAY!!!

    Hope everyone has a lovely weekend. I will be busy enjoying my parent’s company this upcoming week, but I have some fun posts lined up for you guys. I hope you enjoy.Photo Fun Day Friday

    Photo Fun Day Friday

    I recently discovered how smart it is to zest my lemons before I juice them for my daily warm lemon water. I keep a container in the freezer and I just keep adding to it. It’s great to toss into pasta dishes, in salad dressings, etc.

    Photo Fun Day Friday

    Look at this beautiful juice. I cannot recall everything that was in it, but it definitely contained beets 🙂

    I skipped my photo post last week inadvertently, the weeks just fly by way too fast for me. Here are the last two weeks of fun. Hey by the way, how the heck is it June already?

    We have had a handful of events we did for work the past few weeks and we’ve been squeezing in fun where we can. My parents get here a week from today, so we are working like crazy to be able to take off as much time as we can while they are here. I CANNOT WAIT TO SEE THEM!

    We have two events this weekend where we will be vending at, Silverlake Art Craft & Vintage and the Rose Bowl Flea, if you happen to find yourself at either one, come on by and say Hi!

    In switching to a new hosting company last week, I had to skip out on Photo Fun Day Friday, so there are lots of pics this week! However, I have to tell you about how very excited I am about my new hosting company. I am now working with Pair Networks out of Pittsburgh, PA after a not so desirable run with another company. What really drew me to this company is their commitment to sustainable business practices and their environmental policies. All of pair Networks’ operations, including data centers, support operations, development labs, administrative facilities, and employee commutes & business travel are 100% Carbon Neutral. Additionally, pair Networks is powered by 100% renewable energy.

    I urge you to check out Pair Networks and consider switching your hosting, if you are in the market. Their customer service has been amazing and they respond to all of my questions in a very timely matter, even with the 3 hours time difference. (I actually received a personal response to an email from them on a Friday night at 10pm, their time). They aren’t sponsoring me to say all of this, I am just very happy with their service so far and after being quite unhappy with my last company I know there are a lot of not so great companies in that industry, so I thought I would share.

    OK, on to the photos. I first wanted to share with you, my two brand-new promo photos – aka “head shots” (that sounds so fancy) that you might have noticed here on the site. These were taken by the very talented Luke Copping, in Buffalo NY, shortly before we moved out here to So Cal. It was high time I got some pro photos for the site, for press mentions, etc and it was a really fun excuse to get my makeup done (thanks Shianne at Fawn and Fox) and feel good about myself. We also got some photos taken of Mark and I for Hero Design Studio. So happy to have some great professional photos of us, not from our wedding day! Thanks again, Luke!

    OK now here’s quality you are used to – all the non-pro pics I took over the last two weeks 😉

    HAVE A GREAT WEEKEND EVERYONE!

    Got anything fun planned?

  5. Photo Fun Day Friday

    Well here it is, another double Photo Fun Friday post. Two weeks worth of photos, since life has been a bit hectic and we were away last Friday! See my last post that explains all of the busy and crazy in my life right now. A funny thing I realized in looking at these photos from the last two weeks, I feel like I have eaten out at more restaurants in the last month than likely the whole year, with all the traveling, birthdays and trying to squeeze in hang time with friends.

    It has been a really fun two weeks, a great way to finish off the year! We were in Chicago two weekends ago and then Pittsburgh this past weekend. That is it for our traveling for 2012 and now we are home for the holidays! Yay! Hope you enjoy all of the photos (there’s a lot of them), and I hope you are enjoying your holiday season. We will be at the Western New York Book Arts Center this weekend, this afternoon and all day tomorrow, for the Last Minute Panic Holiday Marketplace! Come on by if you are local, we will be selling our prints, greeting cards and other goodies. I will be there on and off, since I also need to be at home packing 😉

    Do you have any fun plans this weekend?

  8. Photo Fun Day Friday

    As you read this, we are hopefully halfway across NY state or somewhere in Pennsylvania or something, starting out our 10-day road trip. I am not entirely sure where the last week went, we were so focused on getting ready for this trip that the last week just feels like a blur. On top of the trip we’ve had a lot of other things going on, some of which I cannot tell you about just yet, but I cannot wait until I can!

    What I can do, is show you a few images from the last week. It’s a lot of printing, working, new posters, etc. I promise I am not trying to advertise to you guys, it was just a very work-heavy week.

    Hope everyone has a wonderful weekend and hopefully next Friday’s post will be a bit more exciting as we will be one-week on the road and by that point we will have already been to DC, Baltimore, Philly and we will be in Brooklyn. I anticipate a pretty big Friday post 🙂

    Photo Fun Day Friday

    How I spent my Friday night! Screenprinting, hot spiced cider with a little Kraken rum, and I listened to (and since finished) Tina Fey’s book Bossy Pants. May not be some people’s idea of a Friday night, but it was perfect to me.

    Photo Fun Day Friday

    Saturday morning I left the house before 8am for yoga and got to spend a few quiet moments watching this beauty on our street. Photo is a little blurry because I was trying to hard not to scare her off. Isn’t she so beautiful?

  9. On the Road / A Very Tasty Thanksgiving

     Hey everyone!! Some of you may have heard read me mention that we had some upcoming travels that would take me away from my kitchen for a bit this month! We are leaving at the end of this week on a 10-day East Coast tour for our business, Hero Design Studio. In a brief explanation we are going to be traveling from Buffalo to Washington, DC, with a quick stop in Baltimore, then we are on to Philly and lastly Brooklyn. We have a bunch of different events and appearances planned for this time, all of which you can read about in detail here on the Hero blog. If any of you will be in the area of DC or Brooklyn, be sure to swing by and see us at the craft fairs we will be vending at. I’d love to meet some of you!

    Of course, while we are away that also means I won’t be in my kitchen creating and with it being one of my favorite times of the year for food and eating, I just couldn’t leave you guys without some seasonal yummies! So, I enlisted the help of some of my most talented friends.

    A Very Tasty Thanksgiving

    We are calling it A Very Tasty Thanksgiving and starting tomorrow, November 8th until November 21st, each day we will have a brand new post featuring clean, unprocessed, wholesome, healthy and of course, gluten-free and dairy-free creations for your holiday feasts!  Plus, we have some extra special posts featuring seasonal transition tips, yoga asanas, holiday stress relieving tips and more. If you aren’t in the US and therefore won’t be celebrating Thanksgiving, consider this a jump start on your holiday meal and life planning, I am sure there are lots of celebrations coming up in the next month or so where these delicious, seasonal recipes and tips will certainly come in handy.

    Visit the Very Tasty Thanksgiving page to follow the entire series, see the full list of participating bloggers and we will be updating that page daily with the new posts. Be sure to check back every day as we have a new guest here to help make your holidays a little tastier and take a moment to comment on the posts and let our guests know we appreciate them being here!

    Thank you so much to all of the wonderful contributors that are filling in for me while I am away, it is so comforting knowing Tasty Yummies is in such good hands.

    *PS – If you have any suggestions on places to eat, practice yoga or just check out in any of those four cities, please feel free to comment below. We are staying in Arlington, VA when we are in DC, right downtown in Philly and on the edge of Greenpoint and Williamsburg in Brooklyn! Thanks!

  10. Photo Fun Day Friday

    Hey everyone!! Happy Friday. It has been a bit crazy over here, as you probably noticed by the lack of a Friday post last week. Last weekend our very good friends, Summer and Patrick were in town from California for their Buffalo wedding reception. It was really fun to just spend the entire weekend with them and their families and to celebrate their marriage again!

    A couple of weeks ago we found out that we (Hero Design Studio) got accepted into an art and craft fair in DC, Crafty Bastards, on the weekend of November 10th and since we have a craft fair, Renegade Craft Fair, scheduled the following weekend in Brooklyn, we decided it made sense to just book our schedule full of different events in between and stay on the road, versus driving all the way home and then turning around again and heading back to the coast. More on all of that in a later post, but for now we are dealing with the craziness of going on the road for 10 days and getting all of the work done beforehand that needs to get done. Plus, we have had a rush of house showings this week, which has been great for obvious reasons, but it has made getting all the work we need to get done before we go, even harder. So it has been a bit hectic over here, to say the least, we didn’t even get to celebrate Halloween, we had a showing and then we spent the rest of the evening working. We have a pretty full schedule until we hit the road next Friday, a week from today, but don’t worry I have some really fun stuff planned for you while I am gone, stay tuned.

    What have you been up to lately? Did you do anything fun for Halloween?

    Photo Fun Day Friday

    Seri being all cute.

    Spend all of last weekend hanging with our besties, Summer and Patrick. Such a great weekend!

    Photo Fun Day Friday

    I made a big huge pot of chicken and vegetable noodle soup on Monday while we waited for the possible arrival of Sandy.

    Feeling pretty lucky that some wind and rain, and a small amount of power outages is the worst of what we received here on our side of New York state. Meanwhile there are people just a few short hours away that lost everything, their homes, their neighborhoods and some so much worse. So much devastation. That Mother Nature is one cruel, cruel B*tch! If you can, donate to the American Red Cross, your monetary donation can aid in their efforts to help those in need at this time of crisis.

    Photo Fun Day Friday

    From the Tasty Yummies blooper reel. This is what happens when you still have strong winds and you attempt to take your food blog photos outside! Wah wah, somehow I did get a shot before the wood back drop fell and spilled it everywhere. (see this coming Monday’s post)

    Photo Fun Day Friday

    A little sneak at a brand new print we designed and printed for Fawn & Fox Salon.

  11. Photo Fun Day Friday

    It’s been a pretty low-key week over here, on Sunday we set up at Clutter s i x here in Buffalo and spent the day outside in the beautiful weather, selling our goodies. It was a fun day, we saw lots of friends and family and it was great to just be outside soaking up the beautiful weather while we still have it. We also completed two more prints in our ongoing series of kitchen and food related prints, a collaboration between my two loves, Hero Design Studio and Tasty Yummies. Eventually I will be adding a small store tab here on the site so they can be purchased right from here, but for now you can nab those or any of our other products from our etsy store or our web store.

    This weekend hubby is in Cleveland for an event (I’ll be staying home with the dog to keep travel costs low) and then we leave on Tuesday next week to head for Chicago for our good friends, Anne and Billy’s wedding and my hubby Mark and Billy are doing a live show for their podcast, so we have a lot going on. I am hoping to get some relaxation in this weekend, but I also have a few recipes I would like to get done before I go, too. We’ll see. Tomorrow is the Autumnal Equinox so I hope to get some sort of fall activity in to celebrate, maybe I’ll just head to the Meyer Brothers Cider Mill and grab a gallon of some delicious apple cider since I have been craving hot mulled apple cider! Sunday I plan to attend an autumnal equinox Vinyasa flow class to live music at my yoga studio, East Meets West. Sounds like a lovely way to celebrate the end of summer and the start of my favorite season.

    What do you have planned for this weekend? Any fun fall activities to celebrate the Autumnal Equinox?

    Photo Fun Day FridayWe buried St. Joseph outside near our for sale sign, in hopes of getting some luck selling the house.(An and old superstition/wives tale that many people swear by). I am certainly not a religious person, by any traditional means, but I definitely have a belief that there is more out there than us and I am willing to try anything to sell this house!

    Another Friday is upon us and another wonderful week behind us. We have been taking in the last moments of summer and trying to enjoy it all while it is here. The weather has been absolutely beautiful and I kinda don’t want it to end, although I have been enjoying the cool evenings and mornings. So great for sleep!

    Clutter s i x Buffalo's DIY Market

    This Sunday, if you are here in Buffalo (or surrounding areas), make some time to get out and head to Clutter s i x Buffalo’s DIY Market at the Essex Art Center. Hubby and I will be set up in a booth there from 11am-5pm, selling all of our goods and wares, including some of the brand new Tasty Yummies kitchen and cooking prints. Read more about the event and get directions here. Spread the word and maybe I will see some of you out there, it is an outdoor event and Sunday is supposed to be an absolutely beautiful day.

    We had a little dinner party get-together with friends Wednesday night. If you live in Buffalo you will be hearing a lot more about this lovely lady, Alyssa. She has plans to open a wonderful allergen-free bakery (with pour over coffee) here in the city in the near future, Wild Roots. For now you can keep up with her recipes and her plans on her blog. (Wild Roots will also be set up at Clutter this Sunday along with us and a handful of other local vendors)

    How is it already Labor Day weekend? Where has this summer gone? I am always torn on this weekend, I am partially excited for the month or two ahead of perfect weather, beautiful crisp, colorful leaves, the cool air, making hearty and hot meals, going apple picking and to the pumpkin farm, pulling out sweaters and boots, and the list goes on and on. But I am also quite sad to say goodbye to the summer! Summer is such a social time around here, there is so much going on, I love the warm weather and all the sunshine, trips to the beach and more. I don’t want it to end.

    This past week flew by, as usual, but when I was pulling the photos together for today’s post I realized how much I have been enjoying slowing down and reliving each week, every Friday. I hope you guys enjoy it too and that I don’t just bore the heck out of you each Friday 🙂 Have a great weekend everyone!

    Can anyone tell me where the last week has gone? It has just flown by. I feel like I just did my last Friday photo post. It has been a busy week over here, lots of social commitments, lots of fun, lots of work. We have a weekend full of stuff, too. The temperatures have started to drop, it is getting darker earlier, the nights are really cool and the stores are just filled with Back to School stuff. I am kinda not ready for the summer to end, personally.

    How has your summer been? Are you ready for it to end or are you enjoying it?

  15. Tasty Yummies’ Two Year Blogiversary and a Giveaway!

    Thank you so so much everyone for participating in the Tasty Yummies 2-year Blogiversary Giveaway and thank you again from the bottom of my heart for all of your lovely comments!! Random.org gave me the random #11 for the winner. Congrats to our winner Alex – who will be getting the Tasty Yummies / Hero Design happiness care package of goodies!!  Thanks again everyone!

    ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
    Today is the two year blogiversary of Tasty Yummies and I can hardly believe it. When I started this blog two years ago, I never thought it could turn into what it has become today. I started writing two years ago just after I lost 30lbs by changing the way I was eating. So many people were asking me what I was eating, how I had time to cook, etc. – so I thought I would start writing up my recipes to share them with people who were interested. I honestly didn’t think anyone would read all of this, let alone be cooking using my recipes or be inspired to change the way they themselves are eating. It still blows my mind every day when I log in here to read the comments and look at the stats. In the last year the amount of people that visit Tasty Yummies seems to go up every week and I am so incredibly humbled by this.
    In the last two years so many aspects of my life have changed, but one of the many things that will never change for me is my love for creating in the kitchen and all of the delicious, healthy and clean foods that you can cook and bake, when you just get into the kitchen and start playing. I have so much gratitude for all of the wonderful people, like you, that come to this site, click around, comment and even print out my recipes and try them, you continually inspire me to create more. Just last week I received an email from someone who recently found out she can no longer have gluten, she felt lost and confused and didn’t even know where to begin with her new lifestyle. She wrote me to tell me that she had found my web site and had already tried a few of my recipes and she was instantly put at ease and excited for her new journey. The overwhelming sense of pride that consumes me reading those types of emails and comments give me the energy to make cookies at 10:00 at night or spend an entire weekend trying to figure out a waffle recipe that I know can be done. It makes me happy to know that even if just one of my recipes on here allows someone to see how easy cooking and eating gluten-free and clean can be, then it is all worth it to me.
    Tasty Yummies was always meant to be a hobby for me, something I did in between all of the other aspects of my life. Many of you already know this, but my husband and I own our own business, Hero Design Studio, where we specialize in custom design and illustration as well as hand silkscreen printed goods and wares. We are so fortunate to not only do what we love, but to do it with each other. Since we closed our boutique of nearly 5-years ago, just over a year ago and moved our studio home to really be able to focus on our work, I have had even more freedom to create in the kitchen, since it now means just a short walk downstairs. Being that all aspects of my life are more intertwined than ever, I am obviously influenced in many ways from all of my loves. Whether it be design, cooking, yoga, etc – they have all come together in a way, that allows every single day to be a happy one!
    In honor of Tasty Yummies’ two year blogiversary – I wanna share my happiness with you guys. I am giving away a little Tasty Yummies / Hero Design Studio package of goodies. These are just a few things where my love of cooking and creating in the kitchen and the happiness it gives me, has crept in and met up with my love of design, illustration and printmaking! I am giving away all of the items you see below. All are designed and hand silkscreen printed by myself and my husband, Mark.
    And thank you again, from the bottom of my heart to all of you that take time out of your very busy lives to read this blog, to try my recipes, to comment, to share my site with others, etc. It truly means the world to me. Namaste.
  16. The Other Side of Beth
    Besides cooking, I rarely share with you the other major love of my life, design. My husband and I work for ourselves and we run, Hero Design Studio. We specialize in hand crafted design, illustration and print making. In addition to created limited edition posters for bands and cultural institutions, we also have an extensive line of our own products, from art prints to greeting cards to t-shirts, all hand silkscreen printed, by us in our home-based studio. So,when I’m not in the kitchen creating, I’m creating somewhere else. We both feel quite fortunate to do what we love every single day, with the person we love more than anything. I wake up every single day feeling blessed to have a life full of passion.
    I honestly could carry on and talk about what we do and the love we have for our work, all day long, I think this is partially why I love cooking and keeping this blog so much, it’s a great way for me to escape that part of my brain and my emotions for a while and it allows me to create, but a completely different way.
    There are obviously many similarities and crossovers between my design career and my love of cooking, baking and blogging about it, some of which you can see visually, like the kitchen and cooking related art prints I have created for our product line. I decided, even though it feels a bit like an advertisement, to share with you a sale we have going right now on Fab.com. It features some of the cooking and food related prints I’ve created, so I thought some of you maybe interested. For those of you that just want recipes and food stuff, sorry for this post 😉
  17. Kitchen Measurement Conversion Print and Tea Towel GIVEAWAY!!
    As many of you know, my husband Mark and I, own our own graphic design / illustration studio, Hero Design Studio, and we also have a storefront here in Buffalo where we sell all of the things we make by hand. Beyond all of our client work and having a storefront, we sell our wares online in our web store and our etsy store and we also travel the country attending different music festivals and craft fairs. I feel blessed every day to be able to do what I love most with the person I love most. Besides cooking, getting up and going to work is one of many joys in my life, I love being able to be creative everyday and to make what I love. There are so many similarities between cooking and a creative job, both come from the heart and are so personal. They are so unique to each individual and when you give yourself fully and honestly to your craft you are also (hopefully) bringing that love and happiness to others, as well.
    I recently combined my love of design and illustration with my love of cooking and designed a kitchen measurement conversion print and a flour sack tea towel. The print is 8″ x 10″ and available in 4 different colors, Vintage Blue, Lemon Yellow, Retro Red and Green Apple and it was hand silkscreen printed by us. The 22″ x 38″ flour sack tea towel is available in Vintage Green and Retro Red and was hand silkscreen printed by our good friend Tom from Pavlov’s Togs. I have had a number of different food, wine and cooking projects on my mind for sometime now and I decided to make this the first of hopefully many, as it is not only fun to look at, but it is also functional.
    I am giving away a towel or print to two lucky readers!! The contest starts today and runs until Thursday, January 27. I will choose two winners at random (using random.org) on January 27 at noon EST.
    HOW TO ENTER:
    In the comments section below, leave a comment and tell me which Tasty Yummies recipe that you have made is your favorite or if you haven’t yet made one, tell me which you are most looking forward to making. That’s it. Please make sure to include your email address in your posting information so I am able to easily contact you to let you know you have won and to arrange shipping. I will choose two different winners and each winner will have their choice of a flour sack tea towel or 8″ x 10″ print.
    Contest participants may reside anywhere, this is not limited to just US Residents. Anyone is eligible to win (even friends and family, hi guys!). If you are chosen as a winner and do not respond to the email notification within 48 hours, a new winner will be chosen.
